Consultancy in all aspects of Drug
Absorption and Metabolism in the Gastrointestinal Tract
John Woodley is internationally
known for his work in a number of aspects of drug absorption. He was a
Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry for many years in a Biology Faculty at an
English University, before moving to France, where he held a post as a
visiting Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy in Toulouse. His particular
expertise is to bring a very broad biochemical and biological knowledge,
and many years of experience of research into intestinal function, to
examining the problems of drug absorption at the intestinal level. John
has developed an excellent in vitro module – the rat improved everted
gut sac – which gives valuable data on rates of drug absorption, route
of passage of the drugs, the role of P-glycoprotein and other transporters,
the effect of intestinal metabolism, effects of excipients and
formulations on absorption. In addition to his experience and knowledge of
in vitro systems, and the problems of the bioavailability of orally
administered drugs, John has also considerable experience and expertise in
the following areas :
-
Liposomes for oral drug delivery : pioneering
studies on stability and absorption.
-
Bioadhesion : the originator of the use of
lectins. Exprience with polymers.
-
Problems of the bioavailability of orally
administered peptides. Peptidase enzymes.
-
Drug delivery
systems.
-
Cell culture : production of monoclonal
antibodies.
John has recently consulted for a number
of major pharmaceutical companies in France and one in the Middle East. He
also has run very successful workshops on all aspects of drug absorption
for industrial researchers. A native English speaker, John is fluent in
spoken French.
